24 hours in New York City

This past weekend, my sister and I visited New York City.  It was amazing to show my best friend some of my favorite places from my summer on the East coast.  Whether you are planning a trip or adding something new to your bucket list, I hope you are entertained by these 24 hours in my life.  Here are the Sparknotes for my trip:

Day one

After a half day at work, my sister and I took the train to Penn Station to start our 24 hours in New York. We stayed at the JW Marriott Essex House on Central Park South (quick s/o to my dad for his hard-earned Marriott points).  After checking into our amazing hotel, we took the long way through Central Park on our way to The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  For the second time this summer, I made sure to visit the Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of Technology exhibit, one of my favorite stops in New York.  It is on display through September 5th, and the Alexander McQueen’s alone are reason to see it.  We put the rest of our time in the museum on fast forward, but you could spend days looking at it all.  The top of The Met was open for cocktail hour, so we watched the sun go down between skyscrapers from the Roof Garden and Martini Bar.  Following a stop on the infamous Met steps, we returned through the park while recognizing spots from our favorite scenes on screen.  The moments following, we came across a large group of people running and yelling.  What I originally thought to be a dangerous riot or attack, was actually the result of another rare Pokemon appearing in Central Park.  If I am going to be completely honest, I looked for it and could not find it.  We cleaned up for dinner and ate around 10:00PM at Blue Ribbon Sushi on West 58th Street.  It is my (and Jimmy Fallon’s) favorite sushi spot in New York.  After having sashimi with my sister, we walked around the city to see the big spots like Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Radio City Music Hall.  We grabbed dessert at Magnolia’s Bakery before close and ventured back to the hotel to end our first day.

Weekends do not truly start until there is brunch, so we ate at Tavern on the Green in Central Park. I love being on their outside patio even though it was so hot that I started to look like a melting wax figure.  For any of my fellow That’s So Raven fans, Raven’s best friend Chelsea was a waitress at our restaurant.  Since I am obnoxious and without shame, I went out of my way to meet her.  The restaurant does not let her take pictures (check out the gallery of photos below to see my sniper shot and more photos from the weekend), but my sister and I did get the chance to talk to her about how much fun we had watching her on Disney as kids.  Following the completion of my 9-year-old-self, we went to the observation deck at the Top of the Rock.  We were immediately drowning in selfie sticks and “I heart NY” tshirts.  Since our trip was short however, the views from above let us see so much of the city in one full spin.  One of the sights we zeroed in on next was Dylan’s Candy Bar before heading to Soho for shopping.  Then, poof!  Hocus, pocus, brokus!  We checked out & Other Stories, Opening Ceremony, Reformation, and a few other stores.  Since we nearly reached the point of street performing to earn back some of our money, it was a good time to head back towards Penn Station and catch our train back to Boston.

Thank you to my parents for making this trip possible and to my sister for being the perfect partner in crime.
